Hi,
A friend of mine uses this elastic for aids for her quadriplegic son. She doesn't remember where she got it last and I have never seen anything like it. The 4.25 swatch will stretch (with a lot of effort) to 6". It is about 1"wide and the ribs are 1/8"thick. It is pretty fuzzy on one side, the long sides have a scratchy feel (from the nylon connecting threads. The other side is firm but would not be irritating. Does anyone know what it is called or where I can find it?

I think it is a sport elastic, designed for sewing to the waist fabric to create the effect of several elastic casings.

I have seen it but only in already made things. They use it in maternity belly/back supports too if that helps the search any.

I haven't found a retail source, but it is called elastic webbing or elastic mesh webbing if you want the terms to use. I'll keep looking too.

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/395136865/fashion_Mesh_elastic_webbing.html

It will likely set you back about $150, however.
