I am in the process of setting up my Quantumlock to double coverstitching... I have never done this before. My question is... The needles that will produce the topstitching can I use polyester sewing machine thread in them????
Thanks...

I see no reason why it shouldn't work. OTOH, my Janome CS really, really hates spools and has a penchant for serger cones. Best advice - try it and see.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just take off the little plastic cones and put the thread straight on To the spool.

Have fun

Don't forget to use the little hats that sit on top of the thread spools and hopefully your serger came with thread nets, those might be helpful as well if the thread is really slipping off the spool.

I use polyester sewing machine thread in my serger all the time; I have a boatload of it, and use it for that mostly. Like Heather said, put the little "hat" on top and the spool won't fly while you're serging.

Not a silly question at all. No really!

Your Quantumlock is two machines in one. It is a serger and a coverstitch machine, so think of them as two separate machines with different needs and settings.

While a serger is timed to use all overlocking thread, a coverstitch machine is timed to use ordinary sewing thread in the needles and overlocking thread in the looper.

So for yout topstitching, use polyester sewing thread in the needles and your overlocking thread in the looper for best results. Thread nets also help on a coverstitch machine, so don't forget them, even if you don't use them for serging. HTH
