I want to do something very special for my DH for Father's Day. It seems like whatever I do, he never seems to appreciate the gifts I give him. Yet he is very generous with his gifts for me and comes up with great ideas. I feel like I always let him down. :(

My DH works a lot and doesn't have tons of hobbies. He does occasionally golf, so one year I bought him a new set of clubs, including a few that he was able to personally select. He really seemed to like that gift, but he has only gone golfing 5-6 times since then (5 years ago?). I have said I would buy tickets for baseball games or football games as gifts, but I need him to choose the game due to scheduling issues, etc. He never picks anything out, even with prodding...so I can't do more gifts like that.

Do you have any ideas and advice?

I am interested in this because I have a similar problem. We don't have any kids but DH's birthday is near Father's Day. I can't ever think of anything to get him except more socks and tee shirts. Seriously... how lame is that for a BDay present?

This year we are going out of town to see my Dad on Father's Day. This is turning out to be just the most welcome of gifts as his family is in shambles right now. (All his siblings are arguing over what to do about his elderly Mom - another thread entirely.) We both feel like getting away even for two days is going to be a major breath of fresh air.

Maybe you could arrange a weekend getaway package for the two of you or a gift cert for some golf games at a course he likes where the time of use is flexible. That way he can choose when to take advantage of it.

I am going to allow mine to buy me fabric all year. I think of it as a win-win.

I have no idea what to get for Dad. He's 87 and my parents moved to a smaller house, bringing too much stuff.

I have historically sewn a new shirt for work or a new pair of boxers from novelty prints. My DH has really enjoyed those - he's also hard to buy for. This year, I'm making him a (hopefully) wearable shorts muslin. Of course, today while we were out shopping, he actually bought two pairs of shorts....go figure! However, other than those, he only has one pair of cutoffs, so I don't think another pair of shorts will be bad.

My DH and his sister took their dad out to lunch last year for Father's Day. I've also made his favorite pie before.

I'm on a mission to get my parents more into technology, not that they are horrible but they need to be more up to date. So I got my dad an iPod for fathers day. He has been using an old Walkman. They also bought a new car which has a USB port so I wanted to make it so they could use it in the car.

Dads are so hard to buy for!

My dad is getting printer ink. And key lime pie. Of course, it's what he asked for.

My DH wanted matching revolvers. He got them...3 weeks early. I'll have his, mine and ours here for father's day, and I have refused to go to anybody else's house that day in which we'll have Mexican food, peach cobbler and fried squash (what he requested).

My dad is hard to buy for, so I started just asking him what homemade pie he wanted. Usually for his birthday it's a dutch apple with rum sauce and father's day is key lime with real whipped cream...but I make everything, including the filling, from scratch and use real butter et al.

Some great ideas ladies! Thank you. I love the idea of booking a trip for him. And, there is a particular cheesecake that he loves. The kids would have fun helping with that.

Now, my Dad would love it if he and I got matching revolvers...but not sure DH would be too happy. Hmmm...

What is everyone else doing?

LOL I'm an NRA member but I don't own a gun. DH owns enough for me, him and you and some more people as well.

We were just at an upscale pharmacy that has real nice stuff. Hubby was looking at shaving brushes.... whoa Nelly. Costs from $80 & up.
Had no idea. His is very old & worn. Still.
