Date: 6/12/12 8:23 AM Hi I'm working on Tunic
and the hem and neck are completed with Fold Over Braid.
That would be great if I could find any - let alone the color I'd like. Can I substitute 1/2" double fold bias tape for the braid?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for any help that is offered. I appreciate it -- Edited on 6/12/12 9:44 AM -- ------ Dina

Date: 6/12/12 8:29 AM I see that it goes along the hem itself (instead of folded over), up the sideseams and down around the back. I can't see the neck very well, though; the pic is too small. But anyway, here's a site that has some:

If you really don't want to use the braid, you can use some double fold wide bias tape, or just fold the hems in twice, about 1/4" and use the rolled hemming foot on your machine. Date: 6/12/12 9:47 AM I posted a better link to the pattern (I'm not very technologically adept - sorry about that).
The braid is used to cover the neckline rather than any kind of finishing. ------ Dina

Date: 6/12/12 1:19 PM Joann's does carry some with the rest of the trims. In a limited amount of colors, but it is there. It calls for 3/4" fold over braid, so you could make your own 3/4" bias tape. ------ Singer 66-16. Date: 6/13/12 1:28 AM it's available on Ebay, not too expensive. The difference is that this braid will be stretchy and thin. Bias tape will have two extra thicknesses and always seems to get ripples in it! Here is one vendor: Ebay store |

Date: 6/13/12 7:03 AM That's foldover elastic. Foldover braid is heavier. I've used it to bind the edges of a dog coat.

Date: 6/13/12 10:13 AM You could finish the edge with piping sewn between the garment and a facing. You could also make your own binding to have a better selection. You wouldn't sew it on the way you would braid. I would make sure you stay the neckline or you are going to get stretching. I think that turning the edge twice would be difficult with the keyhole front. -- Edited on 6/13/12 10:14 AM -- ------ www.nancyksews.blogspot.com |
