Date: 6/12/12 5:58 PM I bought a fine jersey knit rayon/poly from Gorgeous Fabrics awhile back, cut out the pattern pieces, then set the project aside. Now I can't tell which side is which. The 2 sides of the fabric are subtly different. Is there a way to tell which is the right side???? ------ A balanced diet is a cupcake in each hand. |

Date: 6/12/12 6:37 PM If you haven't fused anything or sewn anything, then it's your choice. However, if any of the pieces you cut are single, you may be able to tell from those what side you cut as the right side. ------ Fictionfan |

Date: 6/12/12 7:02 PM The cut edge of a jersey will curl toward the right side. Some curl up and away from the back more than others. A jersey is a single knit- so the face side should resemble tiny knit stitches like those that form a stockinette stitch on a sweater. The reverse side should resemble the purl stitch on a stockinette sweater. If the fabric is very fine, you might need a magnifying glass to see a subtle difference. Sometimes if you hold the pieces up in good lighting, you can see the difference in overall color tone. All that said, it's your choice, but should be consistent. Date: 6/12/12 7:19 PM The right side is whichever you prefer. But as the other posters have said, knits will curl towards the right side when you gently stretch along the cross grain.
The fuzzier side is the "wrong" side; the side you can see the "v" shapes is the "right" side.
Just make sure whatever side you choose, to choose the same for all pieces. ------ I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life!
