2 members like this. Date: 6/15/12 1:35 PM I created a new board on Pinterest named "Things I've found on Pinterest and actually made!" and I managed to annoy at least one friend. It wasn't my intention to brag exactly, but of course I'm proud of what I've done.
Anyway, as a creative person, do you sometimes wish bragging was more socially acceptable? Do I delete my new (and frankly my favorite!) pin board? ------ http://www.maryquitecontrary.com/blog |

She could just be hypersensitive to your ability to sew, or to enjoy sewing if she doesn't.
I've been guilty myself of downgrading how much I sew or if I've been sewing to some of my family members just to avoid their anger at me. |

Date: 6/15/12 2:17 PM It sounds to me like it is HER issue not yours. Be proud of your accomplishments!

Can you post a link so I can follow you? I love following pinboards for people who actually sew but they can be hard to get to.------ http://beccabeckstuff.blogspot.com/

1 member likes this. Date: 6/15/12 2:49 PM to me there is a difference of being naturally proud of your accomplishments, and how you share that with other people. There are places like PR where I think it is encouraged and seen as the norm, and other places where it might come across as maybe a bit too interested (e.g. for me, a social gathering where someone 'boasts" without invitation).
I'm a fairly modest person on the whole (my team leader at my last appraisal was a bit frustrated with my lack of self promotion) but am certainly in the camp of telling all (remotely!) interested friends and family of my sewing achievements.
I guess the difference for me is if the environment/person issues an invitation to "share" then there is nothing wrong. I havent been on pinterest, but surely the whole point of the site is to share what is of interest/importance to you? how can a true friend then get annoyed if you go and do that? |

1 member likes this. Date: 6/15/12 3:15 PM Don't delete your favorite pinboard. It's alright to share your accomplishments. If someone you know is annoyed by your accomplishments, maybe they are having some personal issues about their own accomplishments and abilities. It's no reflection on you. ------ Marilyn

Date: 6/15/12 4:11 PM Let's get a hold of the idea of what bragging is about. Did you stand up in the middle of PTA or church to tell everyone what you've done and that you thought it was so fantastic that you were amazingly talented?
I'd say you are sharing, not bragging.

Can I just add, that in general, it's like everything has changed and nothing has changed. Have we ever heard a guy apologize for throwing a strike, hitting a home run, tweaking a muscle car?

1 member likes this. Date: 6/15/12 4:39 PM No way. Don't delete the board. Post a link here so *I* can follow you! I'll be glad to be an interested audience for all bragging and shameless self-promotion.
I'd start a pinboard for all the pinterest projects I've finished, but it would be woefully empty!
ETA: I've just added your blog to my Google Reader list. It looks great. -- Edited on 6/15/12 4:42 PM -- ------ Kelley (Brisbane, QLD)
