Can a Bernina Ruffler fit any other machine?
I am confused by high low shank discussions

I have a perfectly fine Bernina ruffler for my 630, but I am using the 630 for another project, I wanted to know if ruffler would fit any other machine (For example the Elna 7300 or the straight stitch brother 1500)?

Interesting question. I have both the Bernina Ruffler, and a damaged, short shank ruffler (made by Niiken) for a previous machine.

After removing the Ruffler Adaptor (Foot #77) from the Bernina ruffler, I rested both Rufflers on my desk and measured the height of the mounting brackets.

Bernina: 0.75 inch
Niiken:0.875 inch

So if you mounted your Bernina Ruffler on your elna, it probably would not press on the fabric, but instead skim an eight of an inch above the fabric.

I'm not sure about the Brother 1500-- if that's a high shank machine, the clearance problem might be even worse.

(You can, however, share a Bernina Ruffler between a old style and new style Bernina-- just screw in the proper adapter.)

Bummer on the clearance, but helpful.
