Where is the elbow dart supposed to hit in relationship to the bone? If it is to the bone when arm is bent I need to add close to 2", it it is to line up parellel to the elbow crease it will be closer to 1". Yes, I already know I have "ape arms". Somethings never change.
I do have the bust in the right place for a change. May need to add a bit to the back for driving ease. Great pattern for those of us who are less than curvy.

The elbow dart is the thing that makes room for the elbow bone; not the crease. It is just below the bone; just a tad. (at least that's where I place mine)

Thanks. I just got back from a pattern alteration seminar with Lorraine Henry who said the same thing. I think I will be taking LOTS of measurements in the near future & adjusting how much & where to add.

You mean THE Lorraine Henry who wrote the Pants fitting book? I spoke with her on the phone; she's very nice and very helpful. When I bought her pants fitting book she wrote a little note and put it inside--such a nice person.

Just think of the elbow as a bust with a really big bust point.

Yes, she is at the QSC Expo in Reno again this year. After I finish canning the next batch of jam I am going to sign up for some more classes--to my husband's dismay. Then I will start taking some measurements. Maybe I will eventually not need to use the "Guess & by Golly" method of adding length. Somedays I am envious of people who are shortening. At least they are starting with a known variable.

Elbow darts require more alterations then any one other things I sew because of my little t-rex arms.

I have to take out a little over 3 inches to get it to hit right, then I have to make sure that my Popeye forearms aren't too tight that they seem to cause.

Dunno to rawr or eat spinach.

The elbow dart goes wherever you want it to in order to create the sleeve shape you desire.

You just have to rotate it to where and how you want it.

I was thinking about playing wish fish eye release tucks in order to create a slim sleeve that could billow open to allow for more movement, but I have more fundamental tailoring questions to answer first.
