While I don't need a boyfriend, I could use a sewing pattern for a casual jacket to layer in the fall. I saw this on the Nieman Marcus website, Robert Rodriguez. I like the long narrow shawl collar; maybe make the sleeves rouched. Michael Kors has something similar with a notched collar.

Any suggestions for a pattern? I also like the Burberry jacket, but that will take me forever and a day to tailor.

Knit Boyfriend Blazer: •Heather gray knit.
•Shawl collar; button front.
•Long sleeves.
•Front slip pockets.
•Hem hits at thigh

Thanks for the post. Yes, I thought about CJ Boyfriend jacket, but the collar seems to wide.

I am now thinking about Textile Studio Shawl Collar pattern. I could lengthen it. Not sure about sleeve cap.

Diane, when I made the CJ jacket the last time I just trimmed off 1/2" or so on the collar edge of the jacket and facing, and it worked great. I have made both the CJ jacket and the LH jacket, and I think you may have a better time with the knit in the Cj pattern. I guess that depends on the type of knit, so I shouldn't jump to conclusions!

The CJ pattern is definitely more oversized as a "boy friend" jacket might be, and the LH is designed for drapey fabrics. I would think looking at finished measurements would be very helpful too. Good luck, I would love to see what you end up making!

Andi, thanks for pointing this jacket out---AND the modifications you made. Also, there is a bonus 25% off from Christine: quote from her home page:

I know that being able to buy patterns and fabrics on sale is great, but what really makes me happy is the fact that you are all sewing! I know that being creative and working with your hands is an excellent way to spend time and feel good about yourself... I had so many people order swatches during the sale that I decided to extend the sale date to next Sunday, June 24th. This will hopefully give everyone a chance to order at the 25% off. As I was looking at the CJ pattern for Boyfriend jacket, I realized that I just bought a pattern close to it: the Bolero Multiples from LH.

If you have the LH Bolero basic jacket--you must buy the extra pattern for the variation. Just another option--and one less pattern I MUST buy now from CJ. Maybe in the future!

LH Bolero Multiples.

I have almost every CJ pattern and every LH pattern, and while I like both, there are really no similarities between the two. Both patterns are drafted for different types of figures and different types of silhouettes, and different fabrics. It is funny, I cannot articulate how they are different, but they are!LOL

You can use any jacket pattern with the style you like, it doesn't need to be for knits specifically. You will need to use light weight interfacing products and pare down the tailoring a bit when using a knit. Sometimes one needs to make a slightly smaller size when substituting knits for wovens.
