Date: 6/20/12 8:19 AM Hello, and thank you to the many contributors who have unknowingly helped me, as I return to sewing after a 15-year gap.
I am hoping to buy a machine and have read many reviews, and am currently looking at the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960, which seems like a good choice within my budget. One snag, I live in Hong Kong and will probably buy it from Amazon, as it is about one-third the price of an equivalent machine bought here, even with shipping included! We use 220 Volts, and I am wondering if the machine shipped from the US is a dual-voltage machine.
,I have contacted Amazon, who say they cannot find out, and Singer, who have not replied as yet. I have read the user manual from cover to cover but no answer there. So I'm hoping that a smart, kind, practical PR user may be able to help me out. If you have one of these, is there anything on the machine to indicate if it is dual voltage? Perhaps on the back or bottom of the macine or on the foot pedal?
Many thanks for any help.
Diana.
(Not sure if I can post links as this is my maiden posting, but there is one on eHow on how to tell if your machine is dual voltage.)

Date: 6/20/12 8:50 AM If you are looking at a machine at Amazon U.S. it would not be dual voltage. Perhaps you could try Amazon U.K. I've seen machines advertised on U.K. Ebay that were dual. ------ Linda

Date: 6/22/12 2:58 AM Thanks Linda. Singer have indeed confirmed that it is not dual voltage. Perhaps I could use it with a step down transformer, but I am still concerned that te frequency will not match. We use 50 Hz and I imagine the Singer is a 60 Hz only. I need to check this with the manufacturer, or perhaps someone may be able to help me here.
I have been quoted over $ 1100 at my local dealership, while it costs $330 on Amazon, so I'm hoping this will work out.
If anyone has one, could you tell me if it says 60 Hz or 50/60 Hz on the label?
Many thanks for any help or suggestions. My 25 year old Janome is behaving like the Machine from Hell today, so I'm really looking forward to having an alternative.
