I have been using a free alarm app on the iPad for months - possibly a year - and love it. I like that it lights up before it starts to play and that it has sounds that are much kinder and gentler than alarm clock sounds. Not a morning person here...

I saw the iTunes playlist option, but never quite got around to using it until something inspired me to take a look last night. It has the option of randomly playing anything on the list, but I have everything from Sinatra to Raffi on there and while I would enjoy waking up to Trio (Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt) or Ella Fitzgerald, hearing the dulcet tones of the "Countdown Kids" singing Old MacDonald Had a Farm (remember, I work with toddlers...) might just set me on a scary edge first thing in the morning.

So Good Day Sunshine with the Beatles is a good choice, as is Cat Stevens' Morning Has Broken. Any other suggestions?

My vote goes to Cat Steven's Morning Has Broken.

These don't all have "morning" themes, but I would suggest, in order of preference, these songs:

Most Highly Recommended
Across the Universe The Beatles
Hallelujah Leonard Cohen
Here Comes the Sun The Beatles
Help Yourself Sad Brad Smith
That's No Way to Say Goodbye Leonard Cohen

Highly Recommended
Linger The Cranberries
Dream The Cranberries
Ode to My Family The Cranberries
Islands in the Stream BeeGees

Recommended
My Sweet Lord George Harrison
Mull of Kintyre Wings/Paul McCartney

Maybe
It Don't Come Easy George Harrison
Another Day Paul McCartney & Wings

I like to wake up to music, but it has to be the radio. If it doesn't do something annoying eventually (commercials, annoying yakking DJs, or music I don't like) I simply fall back to sleep...

Renren - we are clearly of the same generation. Quite a selection of Beatles there!

Annie-o - I really love my iPad. DH has an Android and the sound and picture quality is unbelievably bad. We actually thought it was broken when we watched the first video we took. But it does have a USB port, which he really needs for work. We play a bit of dueling tablets, each proclaiming ours to be the best.
