Hi y'all,

"dazzling" is not generally my style, but if it turns out the stuff is actually comfy for running/speed-walking, it's worth a try at the current price, IMO.

Has anyone tried using these dazzle knits from Fabric Mart? Is it appropriate for summer, or too clingy? Knits in summer seem wrong, in general, but maybe this is special? Or is it more an indoor fabric?

Thanks!
Liz

I used to wear it when I was playing sports, and it does breathe and is good for being active. If you sweat, it can cling to you, but it's not too bad and it doesn't stick long, and if memory serves, it's not too terribly hot either.

The most comfy exercise knit is silk, but it's not that easy to find, and $ when one does find it.

And if you do find some, don't tell anyone in the US military. Troops go crazy looking for the stuff for hot and cold weather exercise undies.

Thank you both for your input. Still a big "mebbe" on the dazzle, then. Ducky did not make it sound terribly appealing, but it is working on my obsessive-bargain-hunting nerve. I'm certainly not planning to stock up on the stuff, but might grab a yard if I decide to order from FM while it's still on special. Or a 1.25 yards, just because you can do that now at FM .

Silk knit, eh? Will keep that in mind, just in case there is a sudden surplus and the price crashes .

I actually do have a surplus of woven silk -- particularly silk scarf blanks from my dyeing days -- but only a scrap of silk knit I got on clearance, which is not destined for exercise. Good to know it'll keep me comfy, though!

Thanks again.

Dazzle is a heavy satinized tricot knit. It's quite stable. It's the same fabric used in NBA uniforms. I use it for making recital costumes. It looks like shiney satin, and is very easy to sew.I've made lots of skirts and harem pants out of it. As for women's clothing, I mostly picture it for a robe or caftan.

It's not a bad fabric at all, just not one of my favorites. I asked my kid sister later and she loves it and can't say nice enough things about it. Easy to care for, looks good, comfortable and has a bit of bling to it.

I ordered over 10 yds from FabricMart. I plan to make workout/sports shorts and perhaps one long pant for DS and lounging pants for DH ... eventually....someday. - lol I've looked at some of DS's BB shorts and they seem to be double layers (like having a lining) with this stuff and also some athletic mesh, piping trim and pockets thrown in, and a 3" waistband with drawstrings. Looks like it will be quite an undertaking, but the price was right. I've been busy building a fabulous stash.

I use it to bind polartec blankets (which don't NEED it but which gives it a more finished look) I also used it to back a couple of baby blankets and they turned out great. In fact, the satin part was the baby favorite for texture.

I love the idea of using it for costumes. I find it a bit too flashy for exercise wear for myself, but it is certainly showy and shiny.

Well, I just ordered 1.75 yards of the silver, and plan to make long shorts or pants for running or lounging, depending on what I think when it arrives.

DH says it will look sci-fi sexy. I think he's half right ;). But for the price, I'm not sure I mind looking silly.

Thanks again for the feedback!

BTW, I placed my FM order yesterday, in between the "spend $50 get $7.50 off" and today's reinstatement of the free bundle with $50.00. I actually found it rather liberating not to feel compelled to fill my basket, considering my current stash.
