Is a pattern that's mostly drafted by others - part of it is a commercial pattern, part of it is self-drafted by another self (not me), with touches of mine added to it.

Somehow it doesn't seem right to call this self-drafted, even though I put it all together.

It isn't mostly one pattern or the other, so it doesn't really fit to label it (in a review) as such.

Should I just go with self-drafted, and honor the original pattern makers within the review?

I call mine a poorpigling production. You could call yours a JillyGem..

Don't know the correct term for a Heinz 57 sewing pattern. I am sure there is one though

I didn't realize there was poorpigling productions section in the PR patterns! I'll be sure to check it out. There will be lots of furniture covers there, I presume?

Don't know where I read it---probably on one of the big-time blogger's site---but they were adamant that if someone else did most of the designing then it wasn't "self-drafted". Now that leaves us with: how does one classify it? Hmmm. We do need a Frankenpattern category, but may not get it as the orignal purpose of the site was to do reviews of available patterns.

I'm not help at all, am I? Maybe you can find a Frankenpattern review and get more info that way (or contact the person).

This is why I don't do a lot of reviews, between the vintage, the ones I draft and the ones I frankenpattern.

GL, I don't consider this one self-drafted either, which was why I questioned how to review it here.

Sew Ducky, I may just follow your lead. I will do a blog post, but probably won't bother to do a PR review.

Maybe Deepika could add Frankenpattern to the pattern list.

There's nothing new under the sun, and "designers" copy other "designers" all the time. If you changed a pattern enough for it to be distinct from the original, classify it under "Self Drafted" and explain the geneology in your review.

I'd still like to see it posted here. I say go ahead and use the "Self Drafted" category, and just explain in the review like others have.

It was Pam Erny's 5/2/12 post on Off-the-Cuff. The Negroni Shirt and my RANT about"Self-Drafted". An interesting read. Sorry I don't know how to link yet. Even Pam says

we might not know just what we should call it (I sure as heck don't know)

Why not Frankenpattern? It's such a good picture!

the orignal purpose of the site was to do reviews of available patterns.

We can already do a Self-Drafted pattern review- no link to one that's available. The review is of the process and the Frankenpattern is just that. Collaborating on an existing pattern and sharing that sparks ideas. Someone may then pick up a pattern they never would have noticed and push it further along. It's fun, smart and inspiring. Definitely belongs here.
