Date: 6/24/12 8:06 PM OK People, I need your help. One of my sewing machines, a hand-down from my mom is a vintage Brother Deluxe Zig-Zag Model 1620. I know it was made in Japan, I know that there are almost exactly duplicates of this machine made under the name of 'The White House' and 'White'. What I cannot find to save my life (even after hours scouring the inter-webs) is a stinkin' owners manual for the thing! (The motor works and spins the thingy, but for some reason, it doesn't catch on the belt to move the other thingy that moves the needle. Can anyone help? I would really like to get this beauty back in working order. |

Date: 6/24/12 10:11 PM Here Here is a free White 1620 pdf manual download.Fill in the Captcha letters/numbers in the sequence they appear, then click submit,if the captcha letters/numbers are correct, you will see a link.Either click the link for the manual to display in your browser or right click the link and select save to save it to your hard drive.
Your machine may be in bobbin winding mode,if the needle doesn't move up or down.Is this your sewing machine ?

Date: 6/24/12 10:40 PM maybe you need a new belt or motor adjustments. ------ Galatians 5:22-23 The Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control. There is no law against such things as these |

Date: 7/6/12 8:10 PM Hi. Thanks for the response. Yes, that IS my sewing machine, other than a different color and badge name, of course. No one on that thread ever found the specific manual for it, though. Thanks for the link to the manual you posted, even though it's different than my machine, it's close enough to get me started. I got everything working again, now I just need to figure out how to adjust the bobbin tension and I should be on my way! Thanks again for your help |

Date: 11/11/12 3:01 PM Someone who knows I like old sewing machines left a Universal 80.1 on my doorstep. Googling for a Universal Sewing Machine brings up everything but... Finally came across a White model 1620 being sold on Ebay, and it is the exact same machine, just a different badge. Hammerwall dot com does have the free pdf manual for a White 1620 - 1630, as a link on here says. The directions are not as detailed as a Singer manual, but it covers enough to use the machine. To loosen the inner clutch wheel that's inside the balance wheel, I gave it a whack with a small deadblow hammer, took it out and put a bit of Tri-Lube on the threads before putting it back in. Now it engages or dis-engages the bobbin winder without the needle take-up lever moving up and down. |
