When I made my pants muslin it seemed to fit not too badly until I walked. It pulls between my knee and my upper thigh. If I take a horizontal tuck in the pants at the crotch level it seems to be much better. Any suggestions? What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Usually pulling on the front thigh when walking means that the front crotch length is too long.

It's a bit tricky to figure out how much to alter. To fix it in the pattern you need to take a wedge out of the cf seam. So if it's 1/2" you take that out at cf to nothing at the ss. You can try pulling them up at the cf seam and possibly get an idea from how much you pull up. If you've watched any of Peggy Sagers pants fitting videos try pinning in the wedge like she does. That would give you an idea of how much.

I recently had that problem and the same fix worked. For me, it was too long side seams caused by too much hip curve. Maybe it's the same for you?

When this happened to me, I found that the distance between my upper thigh to my knee was not the same as the pattern; it was shorter. (I'm longer from my knee to my ankle) How to measure is to stand with a tape measure at your side, looking in a mirror. Find the middle point of your knee on the tape measure and subtract this number from the one that appears at your upper thigh and the one that appears at your ankle. On patterns, these two numbers are equal; for me, they shouldn't be. If you were to fold your pattern in half, at the ankle line (which is about 1" above the hem) up to the upper thigh, the mid point on the pattern is your knee. I have to raise this line up by slashing the pattern and moving the bottom portion up 1", then adding to the hem.

I found this out in the Singer Making Pants that Fit book.
