Yes, this is a frivolous topic. Help settle a good-natured disagreement between my sister and me.
I recently retired from my full-time job as a school-based speech-languge pathologist. Now, I'm doing part-time independent contracting as a speech-language pathologist. My sister and I discussed whether I should be considered "retired" or "employed part time". Technically, as an independent contractor, I'm not an employee. But I am still working.
So, what do I check when I'm completing surveys? Employed part-time or retired. ------ I sew, therefore I am.

Date: 6/29/12 8:03 AM I'm retired and I don't do what you are thinking; the only teaching I do (I'm a retired teacher) is quilting classes. But I've been an independent contractor, part time, and I considered myself as Employed Part-Time. I have a friend who retired-retired (as in she's 65) and now works as an independent contractor for a medical office. She's considered being Employed Part Time. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. The key is to respect and live within Her." Jean-Charles Boisset, Winemaker

Date: 6/29/12 9:55 AM I always put down "Self-employed", since it's what I am, and I work part time.
Not retirement age, though, but I work from home and my options are unemployed or stay at home spouse. |

Date: 6/29/12 1:49 PM Take your pick -- either one would be correct. Or you can check the box that says, "prefer not to answer."
