Please note I posted this on the notions board a few days ago, but since there’s been no reply, hope it’s okay to repost to a larger audience. I'm pretty new to posting and am not quite sure how that works. Anyway...

I've been searching for narrow width elastic (preferably 1/4"), and noticed on the Joann site that there's one labeled Stretchrite, but the image shows a Dritz package! Does anyone know if they are actually the same brand/manufacturer? (The packaging I've seen on other sites would indicate otherwise.)

I've read comments to avoid the clear Stretchrite, but if anyone has anything positive to say about it I'd like to hear. Since I’ve found it difficult to purchase the Lastin brand, I found an alternative unidentified one online for $1.50/yd., put a yard in the shopping cart, but US shipping came up $10.95!!

At this point, I'd like to just go ahead and get the Stretchrite or Dritz (or whatever it is!), especially if someone can say it's really not THAT bad of a product!

I use StretchRite 3/8" elastic on a regular basis -- it works just fine for what I use it for (elasticized straps for athletic wear, necklines, narrow waistbands, etc.). The last 1/4" elastic I got from my supplier was Wright's -- I don't use a lot of it so can't really give you an accurate assessment but the other Wright's products I've used have been fabulous.

I get larger quantities at better prices from Newark, Homesew, and other online sources. I just bought a ton from Fashion Sewing Supply. I love the elastic that can be sewn through and even cut to narrower widths. I have had times when I had a tone of 1 nch but needed 1/8 inch and was stuck. But this allows a certain freedon when you know you can get one yard of 1 inch turned into 4 yards of 1/4".

Thank you so much, Sheila. The pattern requirements call for 1/4 for the knit jacket waistline, but I thought 3/8 might work. Your response has really helped! Problem solved

Thank you, Janie. I'll check out those sources too now. Good to know that some elastics can be cut into different widths!
