Date: 6/29/12 11:54 AM I am using kwik sew boxers mens 1672 oop which I made in the past for dh in the large as is. Son in law is much taller-would it be an unreasonable guess to add in an inch in the rise at the lengthen/shorten line? He is no where near so hopefully these will be a wearable muslin. He is between the small and medium having put on a little weight so I took care of that. Am I thinking clearly with adding an inch in the rise. Some of you who sew for taller males how much do you add in. The inside legs on this pattern are a little different in the crotch area(have a little inset sort of there) so not sure about adding any length there. Any thoughts? |

Date: 6/29/12 12:30 PM I am taller than most women (5'11" now I think I have lost a little-lol). I have always had to add to my pants patterns. However, I only need about an inch on most patterns. I am longer on my back so usually have to add more (2" usually) to the length of my blouses, shirts and dresses. It just depends on where he is long at. Is it between his waist and crotch line? or does he have a longer back? Does he want them to fall at his waist or lower? You might have to take a best guess on a muslin and then adjust from there.

Date: 6/29/12 2:47 PM He didn't give any specifications at all just had dd tell me he wanted some please and has not forgotten as she asked again the other day if I was going to do them. I had dd measure his hips and waist. I really haven't looked at him proportion wise closely. He is about 6'4 so I figure he could use some extra length. This kwik sew pattern fit dh like his rtw size wise. He is probably 5'8 and I definitely wouldn't want to shorten them for dh. I decided to make them of good cotton even if I change the master pattern for him in the future. If they fit well he can wear them until I get more sewn. I made dh 10 pairs from this pattern and he loves them. I never thought I'd use my sewing time on boxers but the rtw quality has gotten so bad.
I wish I were taller but am 5'1. My back waist length however is close to the pattern standard being longer waisted, The pants patterns get a lot of folding out, Lol! Thanks for the suggestions. I figure I need to add some length someplace on his pattern. |

She said the other day that he had asked again and when I told her he was next he repeated that to her. I guess hot weather makes lounging around/sleeping in real cotton boxers. I think he wants them sort of like comfy shorts/pjs more than underwear. |

Date: 6/29/12 5:01 PM I think he wears the other kind -at least that is what has been in the laundry when they're here so no luck with that. I cut out the pattern with the inch added. I have to send dd a package next week so plan to do these and mail them with it. I told dd to get some honest feedback so if he wants more I can do any adjustments or try a different pattern the next try. |

If you make him shorty pj bottoms no extra rise should be needed.
Make one pair and see how they fit. They are pretty easy to cut and stitch. |

Date: 6/30/12 7:49 AM Got a pair cut out with the one inch added already to sew-hopefully that will fit so we'll see how this works out. He wants a snap on the fly so I watched you tube videos and got acquainted with my babyville snap pliers yesterday with a couple of samples. I have a summer house dress cut out that I want to finish and then on to his boxers. The garden stuff all over the kitchen and some of my work related tasks are really slowing my sewing time way more than I am liking right now.  Dh just asked if I wanted him to pick some peas for me to shell-yeah like just delighted. I'd much rather be shelling peas by hand than sewing-not!! Lol! |

Date: 7/1/12 7:35 AM I have made many pairs of boxers for my son who is long in the stride from a Timber Lane pattern called First Choice Boxers and I didn't have to alter them at all. He loves them and always wants more of them. I think there are favorable reviews here on PR.
