Date: 6/29/12 9:07 PM I am sure there is a thread on this out there somewhere - but I can't find it!
I have a horrible time hemming polyester 'silky' type material. My hems come out wavy and uneven.
Does any one have any hints? Is this covered in a book?
Help please - I don't want to be stuck sewing cottons my whole life!
Thanx ------ Joan |

Date: 6/29/12 9:59 PM Sorry, linking is a pain on the iPad, so please go to Misc. section of message board. Go to Message Searching, Bumping Threads. Follow the instructions on using the search term for silks.
You won't be disappointed.

Editing to add future search term to capture Marcia R's information.
Thanks, Marcia!

2 members like this. Date: 6/30/12 10:39 AM I just finished teaching my Fine Dressmaking
students how to sew beautiful hems on silky fabrics. Here is a very brief summary. Be sure to follow all guidelines:
Use a single needle plate and straight stitch foot
Mircotex needle in size 60 or 70
fine cotton thread (recommend madera or mettler fine
embroidery thread in 100 cotton
use slight tension when sewing the seam both in front and
behind the pressure foot
small stitch length 15 to 18 SPI
practice on scraps until you develop your skill
