What are you reading? Ideas for the summer heat....

Do not like romance novels, those about contemporary single/divorced problems, or current vampire/ghost types. I like historical sagas like Cold Mountain, Angela's Ashes, The Jungle, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, non-violent legal thrillers. Just re-read Count of Monte Cristo and Exodus (catching up on current Israel problems) and trying to work my way thru old classics like Steinbeck. Thanks!

Date: 6/30/12 3:11 PM I have a Kindle (cheapest kind!) and was able to download Armageddon by Leon Uris for only 3.97 I think. A really interesting book about Germany right after WW11--esp. Berlin, and how the Soviets tried to grab the whole city. I find that with the Kindle I'm reading much more than I did before. It's just so easy to get books.

Rose It takes place in a Victorian England coal mining town. I quite enjoyed it. I buy pocket books at the Thrift shop for 50 cents. I have authors I like, but at that price will sometimes just grab a book off the shelf. I am working my way through Ian Rankin's books which we have on the Ipad, but I have the fight to use the Ipad. On summer camping trips I will often stock up on Harlequins and use them to start a campfire when I am done. ------ Proud parent of a Dwight International School Honour Roll Student

Right now I'm reading The Russian Countess: Escaping Revolutionary Russia by Edith Solohub. One of my favorite authors, Bernd Heinrich, just published two more books and I finished Life Everlasting: The Animal Way of Death last week. It was superb, as is everything he's written. Also finished An Unsung Hero about Tom Crean, a guy from Kerry, Ireland who went on 3 different Antarctic expeditions one of which was the Shackleton Endurance disaster.

I am waiting for "The Case of the Careless Kitten". (Of course...smile). Has anyone read any of the Perry Mason books? Martin... because I've stayed up too late many nights, almost skipped work a time or two, and even DH started them (he WAS the main cook in our house)...
