I am making bridesmaid gowns and a couple of the ladies are full-figured. I have found information on FBA but it only applies to regular patterns, i.e., blouses, dresses, etc. I am looking for FBA for strapless tops. The pattern I am working with is Simplicity 2253. Can anyone share information on this topic?

Thanks

I think your best bet is going to be to tape the pattern pieces together as if they were one flat piece and then make the FBA just as you would on a regular blouse. Then, separate the pieces marking the changes. Definitely make a muslin for each of these gals for the top half of the dress and try it on. This is a tricky one!

Your other option would be to make a muslin of the size recommended by the bust measurement, try it on the girls and pin out any excess fullness in the sides and back. Make those same adjustments to your fashion fabric. Either way, you'll need to make a muslin.

Thanks so much Nancywin. The thought had crossed my mind to tape them together however I wasn't sure if my thinking was on the right track. I will try this and see what happens.

Not to further complicate your life but as one of those full busted girls I would consider a boned corselette with a waist stay to hold it all up. Then the top of the dress is not going to need to be so tight and you are unlikely to get over squeeze. The dress just hangs from the top and the young ladies can dance all they want no tugging. I have almost finished a wedding dress from Vogue 8766 view C modified to be nearly backless. The bodice makes a good start for a corselette which my daughter reports is very comfortable.pattern

Not a complication. Any information is helpful. The dress has a lined corset and I am lining it all the way down so putting in a waist stay won't be an issue. The top is my problem. Good news, I am full busted so I can try on for size.
