How to short-circuit "play all" sequence

I often listen to music on YouTube, and it used to be possible to just listen to one item, then pick the next item. Now it continues through your whole playlist whether you like it or not. I looked online and found a great temporary fix for this -- unfortunately, you can't actually change the settings ...(WHY, WHY? why is this their choice and not ours?)... but you can short-circuit the autoplay so that it just plays your video once.

Find the FIRST

&

symbol in the address bar, and cut it and everything following it from the url. For example, for this video (the [IMO] amazing Tim Eriksen playing "Garden Hymn"), the original YouTube url is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JMCaKufxoY

but YouTube adds a lot more stuff after this in the url in my "play all" address. I've bleeped out the middle, otherwise I'd be giving all of you access to my playlist, but it starts and ends like this:

&list=PL......._video

Start chopping at &list and chop all the way to the end. Now your url will look just like the original, and after your video has played, you won't be automatically taken to the next item in your playlist.

Cool, eh?

Passing on the tip...

I guess it's possible most people don't find the automatic "play entire playlist" annoying.

I find the play all thing EXTREMELY annoying. I like my music in the order I like, and it changes depending on mood.

So a deep felt THANK YOU Joan!

Thanks! I was hoping this would be helpful to someone. I don't understand why they don't let you turn autoplay off -- very "big brother knows best"/"one size fits all" ... aargh! So many things are going this way lately.

Just discovered there's also now a "turn autoplay off" button at the bottom left of the YouTube video page. Not sure how long that's been there, lol.

P.S. I guess it only works if you don't use full screen. It seems to return to default (autoplay) when you're going from full screen back to the regular page. But oh well... it's still something.
