Baby You Can Drape - Husbands (and fabric question)!! Muslin or Quilters Cottom
kayco   Beginner CA USA Member since 6/3/12 Posts: 73	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 7/5/12 9:55 AM My new dressform arrived yesterday and when my ultra-he-man DH saw it he grinned a big grin, spread his arms wide and said with great excitement, "Baby You Can Drape". Hmmm, guess he's peeking when I watch Project Runway. Now for a question. I bought a dritz form that I'm going to pad out with a fabulous fit system. I plan to use a Butterick fitting shell to cover the whole thing. I was going to use muslin for the shell, but it looks like quilters cotton is actually cheaper right now. Soooo is there an advantage to using one over the other? If they are about the same weight what should I do? Either way, I plan to use off white/tan/unbleached. As to the DH, I've just started sewing again (I call myself a Reginner) and every time I make something my sweet DH (who lives in shorts and T's and could care less for fashion) always says with marvel in his voice, "there's not another one like it in the world".

Just get something that will humor your spouse. I am not into naming inanimate objects, but in this case I would call the dressform "baby".

I am not one of these people, however. My form is plain, but I bought it that way, and I added pasties to it for my own entertainment.

Date: 7/5/12 4:30 PM If you have the Fabulous Fit system, you won't need an extra fitting shell. It comes with two covers--one to hold all the padding in place, and one to serve as the outer cover, with CB, CF, and princess seamlines marked. You can mark your bust point and waist with ribbon, if you like, but I haven't found it necessary. Save yourself the work! Spend your sewing time sewing something fun. :b ------ ~Gem in the prairie

Date: 7/6/12 9:49 AM The comment about the pasties reminds me of the only part about the duct-tape double that I don't like. It's kind of creepy to see my naked body double standing around that guests may see when they come over. I always make sure to dress it if I am expecting company, since you have to go through my sewing room to get to the bathroom.

Hee!). It's a win-win--no naked (and depressing) dress form, and I get to see the pretty things I've made! ------ ~Gem in the prairie
