1 member likes this. Date: 7/5/12 11:35 AM I have an unfinished Grandmother's Garden quilt top. Probably made in the 1930's or 1940's. It is all hand sewn. A couple of the hexagons need repaired and there is a couple of places where there are stains. We found this in a box when we bought our house 7 years ago. I was thinking of listing it on eBay but have no idea of value. Any thoughts?

Date: 7/5/12 11:52 AM What size is it? How minor are the stains, as I can't see them from the pictures. It sure is pretty. All hand work makes it worth more, I would think. Do you plan to sell As Is or finish it with a border? Did they leave any more of the fabric? I would guess the fabric from that period and today is much differently made.
Have you found anything like it on th web, anywhere?

Date: 7/5/12 12:05 PM It's approx. 33" (widest point) X 57". I will sell it as is. No more fabric. I haven't done a web search. I'll be adding three more photos to show the stains in a minute. ------ ~Diana~

Date: 7/5/12 12:30 PM It really is a pretty quilt top, stains and all. They look to be small, as I can see your finger and that gives me an idea of size.
What would you like to ask for it? So far, I have no clue in pricing.

Date: 7/5/12 12:34 PM Thanks for the link. I'm looking at 'vintage quilt tops' on eBay. I might post on a quilter's board to get some ideas or just list it and see what happens! ------ ~Diana~

Date: 7/5/12 9:32 PM SewBusy, You might consider taking to a quilt appraiser. Vintage quilts hold value even when they are not quilts but tops. The repairs might be possible if the fabric is not frayed. The stitching is very interesting. Looks like vintage feedsacks and later period fabrics. If you wanted to hand wash it I would use Orvis Quilt Soap or something gentle like that and rather that washing the whole top just spot clean. It is beautiful! ------ Janome MC6600 Bernina 240 Juki MO735 Singer 201-2 Singer 221-1 Singer 15-91 |

Date: 7/6/12 9:19 AM I was just at the Vermont Quilt Festival. One of their booths had vintage quilts and/or tops. My guess would be $75 - $100 considering the size of it. I don't think you'd ever see that price on ebay, but you never know. Are there any quilt shops in your area? Could you find a professional to look at it? Some quilt shows offer appraisals for a modest fee.
Those stains (based on what I see in photos) are easily removed with a number of available products.
