Date: 7/5/12 9:29 PM that has a waistband.

I'd like to change up the look of the skirt by having a side opening. How would you deal with the waistband? The above link will not work. This is the pdf link.

Date: 7/5/12 10:15 PM The main difference is the zipper. Usually a lapped zipper is used in the side seam and the patterns shows a centered zipper in back seam. If the center back seam of the skirt pattern is straight, you can lay it on the fold and eliminate the seam. (move it over 5/8" since you won't need the seam allowance.)Since you aren't changing the measurements, you can use the same pieces, just rotate the waistband. The notches won't be in the same places because the center front of the orginal waistband will now be on the side. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 7/5/12 10:36 PM Since I hadn't phyisically done the work, the waistband proceedure kept getting hung up in my brain cells. Thank you.
I was curious about pants too. If I had a pair of fly front, one or no pleats in front, could I seam the front, rotate the waistband and put a lapped zipper in the side?
If I've worked out all the fitting kinks, it would give me a different look in pants. |

Yes, you might have to trim the fly extensions if your pattern has and you might have to change the pockets (if there are any)------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 8/22/12 9:10 PM I remembered this thread and came here to see if there would be an issues moving a zipper to the side with pants.
Looks like I'm good to go ... ------ Mary
