Date: 7/8/12 12:48 PM Hello, folks! I'll be traveling through Atlanta this Tuesday. Anyone know if there are any worthwhile fabric shops in the city? I've heard that Whipstitch Fabrics carries some independent patterns and fun fabric, but I would love any other ideas you might have! |

Date: 7/9/12 0:28 AM Whipstitch is great for designer cottons-if you like Amy Butler you'll love this place. Gail K fabrics is a good bet as well. It has a larger variety of fabrics and kind of reminds me of some fabric stores in NYC- Hope that helps!

Date: 7/9/12 6:27 AM I love Gail K's. It can be tricky to find the first time. Traffic can be heavy on that stretch of Cheshire Bridge Rd.
It is a non-descript building with a non-descript sign between a hand car wash and ?

Yes, Whipstitch is kinda cool - a little off my beaten path so I don't go there often. Also there is a place in Decatur called Intown Quilters that looks like Whipstich on steroids (much, much bigger and TONS of stuff.)
Both of these stores specialize in cotton print fabrics so if that's what you're looking for you'll be in hog heaven. ------ Margaret (Singer 201-2), Betty (Singer 15-91), Bud (Singer 503), Kathy (Singer 221), Liz (Singer 221 Centennial Edition)

Date: 7/9/12 11:51 AM Don't know if this has changed but Gail K's offers a great ASG discount....think it's 20% off. Take swatches as they have a big (but eclectic) button display.

1 member likes this. Date: 7/12/12 10:15 AM Huge thanks to everyone who recommended Gail K Fabrics! They were running a 20% off holiday sale, so I picked up some gorgeous linen and wools for my reenactment sewing. It was a lovely (if overwhelming) store! |

Date: 7/12/12 12:18 PM Thanks for posting your experience there. DS's SO lives in Atlanta and I've been sewing for her. I feel a shopping trip coming on!
Any tips for shopping there? I was overwhelmed at Mary Jo's but if I went again, I'd have a better idea of where to head and what to look for (as long as they don't rearrange the store!!) ------ Mary

Date: 7/15/12 11:25 AM In reply to Marymouse, my tip for shopping at Gail K is to have a list of specific things you are looking for. then aske Lee or Gail to help you find it. Otherwise you will be overwhelmed and will give up! |
