Date: 7/8/12 1:01 PM Hi,
I would like to learn pattern grading. I read a couple of threads here that suggested that Threads magazine issues 101 (June/July 202), 113 (June/July 2004), and 29 (June/July 1990) have articles about this topic and are really helpful.
I ordered 101 and 113, but I am wondering if I should also look for 29. Does anyone know if the article on pattern grading in issue 29 is significantly different from those in 101 and 113?
Many thanks! ------ http://howsew.blogspot.com/ |

2 members like this. Date: 7/9/12 7:51 PM I have never graded, but have drafted a few patterns and so decided to see if I had the Threads you mentioned and I have all 3 issues. In checking them I think #29 has the most detailed info. It's illustrations are for taking a size 18 and making it a 20. However, there are 5 charts which give you the amount to grade for sizes 4-10, 10-16, and 16-22. They cover Basic Skirt; Basic Bodice; Basic Sleeve; Collar; and Cuff. There is no pants info. The illustrations are large and look very helpful in understanding the process. It is written by Nancy Bryant.
#101 also has info on pants and is by Terry Horlamus
#113 is basically how to grade to another size on Multisize patterns and is by Kathryn Brenne. I would think all together they would be very useful because each one has a slightly different focus with #29 being the most detailed and "traditional" looking method.
Hope this helps. |
