1 member likes this. Date: 7/9/12 9:02 AM Today I went to a fantastic Bernina dealer to have a look at the Bernina 1150mda and the 1200da. The 1200da happened to be a forgotten display model. The 1200da was $550 however couple of feet were missing. The 1150mda was $1499.
Talked to the sales lady who is I would say extremely honest like the my janome dealer. Very friendly. She talked me through the difference and found out new techniques through her demonstrations which was amazing.
I thought about the choices in the store and decided to go with the 1150mda. I went with the 1150mda over the 1200da because of the mtc, the extra pressure feet and brand new in box. The lady who served me mentioned there were a couple left over 1150mda's from the Craft and Quilt fair which was held in Sydney last month. Unfortunately they were sold however they will make an effort to get one in for me soon.
They were generous to sale it to me at the craft and quilt fair price which was $1099. I know you may think "that's not a big discount" well it's difficult to encourage discounts. I have currently paying it by layaway.
Anyhoo I will return to this Bernina dealer with once I have collected my huskylock S21 from the repair shop for trade-in. If I'm lucky I will get a further discount however I don't guarantee it. And hope pay it all by the end of August or earlier. ------ Janome 300E

Date: 7/9/12 9:53 AM I have a 18 y/o Bernina serger and added the 1150MDA to my herd a year ago. I wanted the 'mtc' and really like it. My dealer offers the Mastery classes and I attended all of them, and learned some new tricks & tips even after 18 years of serger and taking a twelve-week adult ed course on serging in 1995.
You got a good price for the serger and it will last a looong time. Enjoy! |

Date: 7/9/12 11:30 AM Either of those machines is a good choice. I have the 1200 and love it. It sews great and I do not have to mess around with tenison problems like I did with my last serger.
Fighting tension on a serger is very frustrating. ------ Ada

Date: 7/9/12 11:32 AM Congratulations on your new serger and especially for finding a great dealer. I think having a great person to learn from and for service is a huge part of good sewing machine/serger decision. ------ Mary

Subject: Guess what... Im getting a new serger :D Date: 7/9/12 7:44 PM Thanks everyone. I am extremely happy about this. So much I wish I had gotten this before the Huskylock. I thought my first serger would be my last so I am confident that my second will be my last serger for sure. ------ Janome 300E

Date: 7/13/12 5:00 AM Just an update. I again have placed the Bernina 1150mda on layaway. I gave my huskylock over a week ago for repairs. Received a call this week to pick it up (which was a relief) I took it straight to the Bernina dealer for trade in I got a $250 trade-in (don't be shocked, I knew it wasn't going to be much anyway I thought it would be much less then offered).
The $250 was deducted from my balance for my 1150mda. I paid more than half under just over a week. (A lot faster then I predicted at first) Tuesday next week the 1150mda stock will arrive however I will return monday to pay off the remainder and have it delivered home (I take public transport )
It will be fun! ------ Janome 300E
