Interview Outfits only have a few days to pull something together

I need to take all my time to get my paperwork in order, so I will really not have that much time to fit/sew. Challenges: 1)Middle aged pear figure competing with young 20 somethings I have experience, but never had the figure 2)Not really much of a formal wardrobe. 3) Always wore a suit for interviews; don't have a suit, a suit could be WAY too formal-last interview was 17 years ago! 4) Interviewing for a very casual health care field, non-management position 5) RTW does not usually fit well---barely fits 6) med/small town...not very cosmepolitan 7) usually wear funky/artsy clothes I was figuring a straight skirt of some sort...either black textured knit or black pencil skirt. With low heeled black pumps I have a number of Twin sets, nice knit tops and cardigans. Have a med weight black boucle jacket that fits Ok. Is a twin set with slight shoulder pads OK? Is the boucle jacket too wintery? Would linen (non-lined) be too casual? Any insights or opinions would be helpful! hanks!!!

With the linen you'll end up looking rumpled, I would guess. Date: 7/9/12 3:05 PM be monochromatic and wear big jewelery in a contrasting color. so all the pieces you wear in a solids in the same or similar colors wear a big** necklace. don't wear tons of make up...lots of make up is ageing. I recently was in your situation, I was lucky enough that the fabric shop still had the same fabric I had made smart trousers from. I ran myself up a jacket (I spent time doing the welt pockets and didn't have time to line it - it is still waiting a year later) Make sure you are comfy, this means you can relax. Don't wear noisy jewellery or overpowering fragrance. Whatever you wear, you should feel confident. good luck! ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

If you want to project experience, reliability and trust (if you are to deal with sensitive persons or situations for instance), twin sets are great. If you want to project energy, dynamism and open-mindedness, especially if other candidates are in their 20s, twin sets may not be the best choice. I'd choose a knit top or a linen jacket - provided it doesn't read "suit" with your skirt. (I don't say that you're not energetic but it's all about first impressions). I got all the application/resume etc in on time, and I am assuming I will get called for the interview...I like to think positively! Spent the better part of today doing research on the company/the job. Then, I don't know why I didn't think of this first, I went to Talbots. It's where I bought my interview suit the last time, and they do have plus sizes. THey were having their big sale, so not much on the rack, but found 2 jackets that are pretty good. They don't fit like the stuff I make, but it is comfortable. A Black/white glen plaid jacket in a light weight poly/rayon blend. I have a black pencil skirt and black trousers. I will whip up a white R/L drape front knit top, or just a simple tee top. I can also make a top in a slightly brighter color, maybe red or a bright royal/cobalt blue? I appreciate the comment about the image I want to display. It would be working with school children, families, teachers as a consultant. I have many years of experience, so I think the jacket will show some authority, and the softer trousers will make it a bit less "suity, I am better than you" kind of look. I will probably only wear earrings, b/c that is my usual, and light makeup b/c my rosea will make me beet red , and nothing can cover that! Thanks all...I will let you know if I get called for an interview. If not, I hope there are a few more possibilities out there!
