Yes, it was January when I started my Stella McCartney raincoat ripoff

Pre-Fall 2012

I took 4th of July week off and got the raincoat done. I cut on my dining room table, and my NYC apartment was, like, close to 100 degrees all week! But my bedroom, where my sewing machine is has AC. So I'd cut and sweat and then jump back into the bedroom to sew.

I felt spiritually united with those "sweat shop" workers who came before us. It was not that long ago that they were working with FANS ONLY in the various factory districts of NY, and all over! Some still do! I thought about all of them.

I lined the raincoat with a really silly green and purple tiny floral print. It's fun!

Okay, now on to the separate buffalo plaid vest with white collar.

Then, I gotta promise to give myself a break and SEW SOMETHING EZ!

Like shorts.

Love the coat. Glad you mojo is back. My sewing room is upstairs and there isn't any AC up there. Did bring a machine down to the dining room and have been sewing a chair cover for my big chair.
I am with you lets do something simple. Shorts would be good.

I'm usually so good about getting a garment started and finished, and the mental block for me on this one was financial. I got a $60 gift certificate to Mood and blew it all on this Max Mara raincoat fabric, and I was just so freaked out by the expensive fabric.

Also, working with raincoat material was fairly mizzable. You can only pin in the seam allowance because the pins punch tiny holes in the fabric. You can't rip out a seam for the same reason: the line of little holes show. So you MUST get a seam correct the very first time.

I tell you, I can't imagine I'll work with fussy goods like this again (like vinyl, oilcloth, leather...) Lotta pressure to get it all right the very first time. I didn't really enjoy it a lot although I am gonna LOOOOOOVE wearing this raincoat! And God knows what Stella is selling it for: her Citrus tuxedo jacket was $1800 and I ripped that off for about $30.

Hey, is citrus a thing this year? I got a length of citrus knit in my last FabricMart mystery bundle. Was planning on using it for tween girl.

Jadamo00, good for you, reclaiming the groove. Also good for us 'cause you have some very funny things to say here at PR.

Wow, Sauv -- thanks!

Fruits and botanicals, still going strong! Someone was even inspired by Stella's fashions that they created a Stella Citrus CAKE! How fun is this?
