I'm really keen to sew Burda style 03.2012.116, but I'm not keen on its non-collar. I think I'd like to sew a normal collar on.

Any advice for doing so - and does anyone know of a basic jacket pattern from which I might grab the normal collar? Looking at the pattern, do you think it might look bizarre with a collar attached?

I made this jacket, here's a picture of the line drawing:

As it has a non symmetrical closing I think it's difficult to add another type of collar to it. The lowest point on the front is lower than for a normal collar (by which you mean collar with stand?) and if you make that point higher, it affects the front shaping with the zipper part too.

I might be wrong, it's just my thoughts on this pattern. BTW, I love this jacket and have worn it very often already.

Thanks for your thoughts on the collar, Sigrid! It's especially helpful getting feedback from someone who's made the pattern - and did such a beautiful job.

Maybe I'll have a go with the collar as drafted - it might grow on me. I just have flashbacks of 1990s mandarin collar shirts, which I was never keen on. It may well be different!

FWIW: the collar as it is never felt like a mandarin collar to me, it's lower on the neck and not as tight.
And re-reading my first reply I see that i've expressed myself a bit unclear on the lowest part, but think you have got my meaning that it's the center point of the front I was referring to.
