Hi! I am pretty much a rank beginner in sewing clothing. I appreciate any help so much! I am teaching myself as I go.

I'm working on a muslin for Colette's Sorbetto for myself. Everything's going fairly smoothly and I was about to call the muslin "done", but I have growing concern about where the points of the bust darts lie, which is right smack at the bust point. This is not right,...right? What can I expect to happen to the fit of the top if I move the point over?

You don't move the dart over, just draw and sew it shorter. The bust will have a softer, more rounded look.

Thank you for your reply! I guess by "move" I meant shorten.

I appreciate your help! I am so glad to know nothing horrible will happen if I change the pattern. :)

I adore Adele Margolis' book "Make Your Own Dress Patterns." The first chapter is all about darts, and it will answer all of your questions about moving them, shortening them, manipulating them however you want. It's *exceptionally* clear.

Your local public library will almost certainly have a copy. It's an old book (reprinted about a squillion times), and I understand that the older versions may have a slightly different title.

I also had to move my bust darts when I did that top - I found them crazy high.
