I'm currently working on Simplicity pattern 2609 - a skirt with a hem. The one I selected is skirt E. Here's a link to the pattern info on this website http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/patterns/sewingpatterns.pl?patternid=29421
I'm a beginner at sewing and ran into an issue when it instructs you to sew the skirt to the yoke. The instructions first have you stitch up both sides of the skirt, as well as stitching up both sides of the yoke. Then it tells you to stitch the skirt to the yoke. What I don't understand is how you could do that since the sides are already stitched up. It seems like to do this you would have to sew the skirt closed. Any suggestions? Thanks!

BTW, I meant to say "a skirt with a yoke" rather than "a skirt with a hem"

You're going to stitch it in a circle. The way you are thinking is sewing them together flat, but that's not the case here. Place the right side of the yoke to the right side of the skirt, matching the edges (there might be some notches to match too) so that you see the wrong side of the yoke when you are pinning. (it should look like a slip over the skirt part, but inside out). Then sew it together.

Thanks very much! I'll try doing that tonight and see if I still run into trouble. I appreciate your assistance!
