Tracing Patterns Alternative to Swedish Tracing Paper

Have tried white craft paper, but find it's too difficult to see through and to storage. Is there a tissue paper that would be good for this?

I lay the tissue pattern ON TOP OF the wrapping paper, and use a basic Sharpie to trace. The Sharpie bleeds through the tissue and leaves a nice clear mark on the wrapping paper (but doesn't bleed through). Quick, simple, and cheap. (The only downside is that the wrapping paper rolls back up on itself, so you have to press it after you cut the patter pieces out. And, no, I won't tell you how long I'd been doing this before I realized I could do that! Ha!) If I am unusually impatient and want to skip the step of doing a muslin, I will trace onto Tru-Grid, which is like interfacing marked with 1" gridlines, and has the added bonus of being sewable. But it's a lot more difficult to mark on (I've gotten the best results using a Chaco-liner). You can buy it by the bolt or yard from JoAnn. -- Edited on 7/12/12 6:20 PM -- ------ ~Gem in the prairie

It is 21 inches wide and 77 yards long for around $7. You can see through it -- I use a white poster board underneath -- if you place it on top of a cutting board, it is too confusing. I use a quart-size ziplok bag to hold the pieces after they are traced and slip it behind the pattern envelope. ------ Total fabric on hand: 1/1/13 1683.731 yds Sewn in 2012: 176.212 yds 2013 Goal: 400 yds (again) Jan -- 38.0 (11 items) Feb -- 6.5 (5) March -- (8.5) (2) April -- 17.66(18) May -- () June -- () July -- () August -- () September -- () October November December Total yards sewn to date -- 53.0 yards

I bought a roll from a local quilt shop a year ago and am still working with it. It's trench wrap fabric for drainage and it is really strong. You could actually sew this together - it's pretty strong. Because it's see through when tracing patterns you need to use colored pencils or ??? It works for me and you get lots for a very reasonable price - 36 inches wide and 150 feet for 14.99 ------ What is Maxine saying?? "I don't iron. If I'm not wrinkle-free why should my clothes be."

It cost me $5.00 and has yards and yards on the roll. It is thin enough to see through and yet heavy enough to last through multiple uses. And because it was so cheap,I don't hesitate to use it freely.
