Does Amazon.com have sales ? Looking at a couple of items

I have only shopped with them a few times for books. We found a couple of things there that we would like but DH says wait til it goes on sale at a lower price. Do they do sales ? Anyone know? Padmé Member since 7/12/06 Posts: 1658	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 7/16/12 11:51 AM If it's used, you might be able to see if people will list their item at a lower price point but make sure it's got all of the pages, patterns, etc. in the book and they tell you in their listing. I've never encountered a sale. I have put items in my cart, or wait for later cart, and then followed it to see if the price decreases or increases. I decide to buy when I feel comfortable, really want it, or think it won't get any lower.

If you do a search on Amazon for the book you want, there are several listings from booksellers that will sell them to you for a fraction of the cost. These are listed under "More Buying Choices". Some of these books are brand new and the bookseller wants to unload them, and some are used; look at the descriptions to get a better idea. Also there are several other sites that have used and new books for sale at a reduced cost. They are Half.com, Alibris.com and Hamiltonbooks.com Hamilton will send you via USPS a quarterly catalog with a flat rate shipping fee of $5.00 no matter how many books you buy, if you order from their quarterly catalog. I really like purchasing books this way; I'm not only saving money but I'm also saving the planet by buying something that is in good used condition that someone no longer wants. Also, I've sold books on these sites as well, in my attempt to "share the wealth". Then of course there are the classifieds here on PR to sell; that's a great avenue! EDITED TO ADD: Amazon has a Wishlist, as well as Hamilton, that you can put books into that you wish. Then when you purchase them, they are deducted from your wishlist. In other words, there is no way to know when a price will drop, but the prices do drop occasionally with the decrease considerable at times. You just have to watch AND it depends on the item.

There is a free Amazon price-tracker called camelcamelcamel.com that will give you pricing history as well as price change alerts for items on Amazon. It is particularly useful around Christmas when Amazon has a lot of specials, but I use it year-round. The price history is especially useful to see if you are paying a good price or if the price has increased recently.

Actually I have ordered a couple of hard to find kitchen items in addition to books from Amazon. I will check into some of the options mentioned here. Wish I knew where to find the foil/parchment paper besides Amazon. I have not found it at any stores here. Of course, it is primary a great book store for me........... And as an author, I'm not *supposed* to like Amazon, because they're destroying independent booksellers, etc... sigh. But I've been an Amazon shopper since they WERE "the little guy--" one guy in Seattle selling books out of his garage. As an author, I like NOT being bombarded by all the bestsellers B&N is stocking and promoting (instead of my books! LOL), and as a consumer, I like that I can always, always, always find books *I* want to read--not just the books the booksellers are trying to sell. I know that's not the way it's "supposed" to be, but that's my honest experience. (And Kitty, don't feel bad--I just in the last ten minutes ordered a $1.00 copy of one of my favorite books by my favorite authors, because I'm sending the hardcover first edition I payed full price for to a friend, and I still want my own copy!) ------ ~Gem in the prairie
