Can you breathe in them? Are they worth it?

I've never tried on Spanx or anything similar. I need something to flatten my belly. I have tried control top panty hose and I hate them! They come up to my boobs and then when I sit down they roll down. They cut into me and I feel like I can't breathe in them. I can't wait to get them off! Is the Spanx very tight and smothering? Do they make them for short people?

I love Spanx but it's more restricting than control top panty hose (at least the model I wear - Power Panties I think they're called.)

Most Nordstrom sales associates suggest buying one size larger than what size chart recommends. This has helped me quite a few times in the shaper/smoother styles. May not work with the bras.

I wear some of the Spanx camisoles. I say some as some designs work for me and some don't. I like the v neck with the lace trim and the really plain one with the scoop front neck. There have been times when the front neck has been too scooped and I turn it around to wear backwards.

I purchase one size up. I mentioned before that I'm looking for smoothness and modesty, not squishing. Very comfortable and cool, even in our climate.

A 5' 5'', the camisole is long enough that it comes down over my tummy and I tuck it in my underwear of choice.. Not why I wear the camisoles, but yes, there is some tummy smoothing also. Since I have a very low rise, I cannot even think about wearing one of their tradition bottom garments - yuck, why not just strangle myself? But that is me and the peculiarities of having a very short rise.

There are some other garments that might might work without that strangling effect. The hide and shape panty and the boy short look like they are cut a little low compared to other items. And a bodysuit sized up might work well for you.

Being all to familiar with miles and miles of extra crotch/seat length in the pantyhose I can sympathize. Check out the Trust Your Thinstincts model. It looks like it was made for you (for me too for that matter).

The camisoles have really expanded the versatility of what I am able to wear as pertains to sheers and skimpy knits that typically telegraph everything under the top. And the modest ones have enabled me to become a quick change artist when we are traveling. Plus, on a very hot day, it is not unusual for me to pull off my outer garment when I get home and do chores in the Spanx and then pop back on the outer garment again when I need to leave the house. As cool as a cotton tank.

You might want to try the brand Wacoal. They make many different styles and I like the fabric much better than Spanx brand. They costs more, but in my opinion are well worth it. I knownNorsdstrom sells them and most upper end department stores as well.

I love the lower line from Spanx called Assets. It's sold at Target. They are just as comfortable as the regular Spanx but much cheaper.

Definitely go to a place where you can try the stuff on and purchase after you've tried them on. Because they do tend to fit rather tightly, you want to make sure it's comfortable enough for you to purchase. They are typically much tighter than control top pantyhose, BUT if you buy up a size, it might be just right!

Good luck!

Target sells control tanks called flexeez made by the same company as Spanx for much less money. I have never found the short type comfortable but I LOVE the cami types. The stay down over my belly and don't cut me in half. They also control back rolls and will fill in those low cut tops nicely as a cami should. I highly recommend them.

I buy Spanx from OneStopPlus, and they're Very Comfortable. Totally prevents inner-thigh chafing, which is why I buy them. As for tummy taming, I suppose they'd work, but they would not be as comfy, simply because there is pressure.

I think you'd like something like
this

They're also surprisingly durable. I've had one pair for several years, and I wash it with hot water and throw it in the dryer and it's still kicking.

I used to wear Spanx buy Sara Blakely until I found the Assets at Target, also made by her. For me, they work just as well and the price is right! Purchase a size larger.
