Wow am I a happy quilter today!

My BIGGEST problem with FMQ is that I have absolutely NO ability to free hand anything, in any form. If I can not draw a decent squiggle how in the world am I supposed to reverse "draw" to fmq?? So I use stencils and it solves that problem.

Except it takes F O R E V E R to draw in a stencil, and you still have to connect the parts.

So today I tried Pounce chalk marker in a stencil. WOW

FAST easy and awesome!!!!

Pounce is AWESOME!

Sets with hairspray to keep it from disappearing, then wipes off with a cloth diaper. Nice FAST easy way to mark fabric so even *I* who can't draw a straight line with a ruler, can FMQ!!

Happy dance!!

My 2nd favorite BEST NEW FRIEND is teflon oven liner.

I saw the free motion quilt project girl uses the Queen Supreme Slider, which is 11.5" x 17" and sells for $60-$70.

The oven liner is 25" x 17" and is $7.99. SWEET! I taped it down, used a seam ripper to make the needle hole, and YES it does actually make a SIGNIFICANT difference, especially since I use fleece for my quilt backs.

small needle hole:

Thanks for the tips! All I found with Pounce is a powder. Where do you find a marker?

*Very* clever! I've been meaning to get some Pounce items, nice to see they work so well. I am capable of doodling on paper but I think I need a lot more practice when it comes to FMQing. Having a guide will definitely make it easier. Thanks for sharing!

Sorry, it IS chalk powder.

I consider it a 'marker' because that's exactly what it's doing for me- marking my fabric.

I am a simple minded person.

Here is the stencil I used:

I used a cloth diaper to wipe off what I didn't want on there, and it was a very easy guide to follow.

The hairspray worked well too to keep it on there while I was quilting, and it wiped off very easily afterwards. I will wash the quilt anyways before it's used, but I was happy to already not have a bunch a markings on my quilt to worry about.

My daughter is not too pleased I used her hairspray though

Cat I'm so glad you posted this. I have the powder and a stippling stencil, but how do you apply it? Is there a tool for that? I didn't see a tool to apply it when I bought it from Joann's. Maybe I need to go back? And thanks for the hairspray tip!

I see there is both white and blue Pounce. Would you need both?

Look at the picture with the stencil. Next to the stencil is a white fluffy thing that looks like a chalk board eraser. It has a stoppered hole in the top that you put the powder into, then you just wipe the applicator over the stencil and the chalk is there! Simple easy and SUPER fast!

I think I do need the blue. I don't think the white is going to show up very well on light fabrics.
