Date: 7/19/12 0:35 AM Looking for fabrics to make Eileen Fisher style clothes. Especially like linen for pants and there is a couple tops made from linen jersey that look fabulous since I love to wear knits. Haven't sewn with linen before; but recently moved to Florida and looking to make classic clothes for year round warm weather. Any suggestions on where to find them online? Moved from Chicago to Florida and miss all the great fabric stores like Vogue!! Our JoAnn's selection is not really good either. Any help would be appreciated.

Date: 7/19/12 2:17 AM fabrics-store.com has some nice woven linen, but I have no idea where to find knits.
Always really liked Eileen Fisher fabrics, but the actual clothes are hopeless on me. I'd need to copy them and make an FBA and give more coverage in the sleeveless tops. |

Date: 7/19/12 3:02 AM Mood Fabrics has linen knits just like EF's. I have bought them at Mood's brick-and-mortar store in LA and can tell you (a) they often have more at the store than what's on the web, and (b) that even within one color, there can be different weights and quality. Definitely ask for swatches before buying. |

Date: 7/19/12 6:12 AM Another Eileen Fisher fan here. I have noticed that Emma Onesock sometimes has her fabrics.
I have been experimenting with tunics and pullovers inspired by her designs and enjoy wearing them a lot. Of course it is winter here, so I have been doing winter clothing. ------ Taking in is happier than letting out.

Date: 7/20/12 7:52 AM I have been a fan of EF styled clothing for years. Sewing Workshop carries linen knits as does Mood, although I have not tried either. I am working on assembling some EF look alike patterns. A top that I have just finished is Louise Cutting's Anything But Ordinary top (not jacket) which very closely resembles certain EF loose tops. I am using rayon viscose from Emmaonesock. Also, Vogue 1261 is an EF styled top. If you have other suggestions, I would enjoy hearing from you. I, too, moved to FL a year ago from RI and find I need different pieces of clothing. Shopping yesterday, I saw so many beautiful Fall pieces that I have no use for..but still love!!
ETA: Sewing Workshop Hudson top is also a great look alike and I see that Cloth Merchant has linen knit. -- Edited on 7/20/12 8:05 AM -- |

Date: 7/20/12 9:00 AM Oh this thread is what I have been "wanting to know" but hadn't asked.
Thanks. Can we start or compile a list of EF look alike patterns for all of us? I love her simple styles, but not the price tag. It seems that I look at patterns, but can put the 2 together very well (available patterns & her styles). Some of her styles are a no no on me, but many are wonderful! I have over the past several years waited until the summer sales and picked up a few pieces that i have worn & worn and keep adding to. That is the only way I can justify the price. But with all of you, acquiring patterns and her fabric will make my life much richer (making my own to fit clothing pieces and more $ in my pocket). Date: 7/20/12 11:25 AM Another Eileen Fisher fan here; in fact bought a couple of pieces yesterday but still not cheap at 25% off. I am hard to fit but find her pants are wearable. Wish I could find an exact pattern. Would be wonderful if everyone who does on-line fabric shopping would put out an alert when you locate a great source (after you order yours, of course!) Jane |
