I think I've got the fit ok in the front, but I'm not so sure about the back... it seems wonky, but I can't put a finger on what might be the fix.

Skirt in progress

(I think the wrinkles near the waist are not so much from fit, but from pinning the back shut, rather than installing the CB zip that's supposed to be there.)

Are the darts too long? Is it just too big? Or is the fit ok, and the darts just poorly sewn? Something else entirely? TIA!

That's a cute skirt! I'm not sure the darts are too long, but there's a slight pucker at the end of them. When you're sewing the darts, are you starting from the waist, then finishing with teensy tiny stitches just off the edge of the dart's point? And then press as sewn, and then over a ham to get the shaping.

Perhaps I should have another go at sewing the darts... I just basted them, as I thought it wouldn't matter for fitting, but now I'm rethinking that. I'll try doing it how you suggested, quathy, and post another photo once it's done.

I think the darts are a bit too long. Shorten them (you can baste and tie off the ends) and press them. Then see how it looks. Also, it looks like the center back is a bit too tight. Loosen the pinning just a smidge (1/8") and try it on again.

So, I had another go at the darts, this time using better technique (start at waist, tiny stitches at the point, right next to the fold).

I think it may have helped a little, but it still doesn't look right to me. It seems like (for the first time in my life!) there's too much room in the booty. Also, after pinning the CB more carefully, it appears the wrinkles have lessened, so one less thing to worry about.

Debbie, I didn't see your post until after this fix/photo... I think shortening those darts will be my next step.

I would baste the waistband on first, before doing anymore tweaking. Adding the waistband may bring everything up and change the entire fit

In your first pic it looked as if it may have been too tight just under the waist. What does the profile look like? Usually when there's puckering it's because the darts are too long. Attaching the waistband may be a good idea. You can just baste or pin it on.
