Hello all. I promised my daughter a modified crinoline slip to wear under a summer dress I just finished for her, and I'm having a hard time planning the project. I found this post on Gertie's blog (love her!) for a discontinued petticoat sold by Anthropologie a few years ago. This would be ideal, since the skirt of the dress is full but not huge, but how to proceed? I have bemberg rayon or cotton batiste yardage for the slip, and cotton crinoline from vogue fabrics which looks more like fairly stiff netting.

Help! I need to finish this stat, of course... :-)

Here's the link:

Thanks all!

Make a 1/2 slip from the lining fabric and then attach the gathered netting. The blog post says the slip is 19" long, so guessing at the proportion, it looks like the layers are 5 inches each...or 5 on the first tier and 4 on the second tier.

Cut the netting to the correct width (after adding a seam allowance at the top) and start gathering. The first tier is gathered and attached to the slip, the second tier is gathered and attached to the first tier. I think I would make it from the bottom up....gather the second tier and attach to the first then gather the first to fit the slip. The netting is a challenge to work with -- use a ratio of 4 or 5 to 1 for the gathering.

If you get it together and it isn't stiff enough to hold out the skirt, you can starch it with corn starch. Just call the customer service phone number on the box of Kingsford Corn Starch and they will give you instructions.

Good luck.
