Date: 7/23/12 1:26 AM I am am making a flower girl dress for one of my nieces. Living in Canberra we have a very limited supply of fabrics so what a great excuse/reason for a trip to Sydney to check out the shops
Some ladies I know said that Cabramatta is the place to go. Is there somewhere else I should try? Any suggestions welcome.
Didn't get any sewing done over the weekend, but hoping to get at least a top done this week!

Date: 7/23/12 2:51 AM I'm sure the Sydney girls will be able to give you much better advice, but I always loved to visit The Fabric Store in Surry Hills when I was there on holidays. Of course, we have our own branch now in Brisbane, so I'll have to find special Sydney shop for future trips.
You might also get a bit more response on the regular PRDU thread, too. I believe Belinda (Sew4Fun) has put together a map which shows all the fabric stores around Australia. ------ Kelley (Brisbane, QLD)

Date: 7/23/12 3:39 AM Everyone seems to be reading my mind today. Here is a link to the Google Map - Aus & NZ Fabric Stores. This shows many of the independent fabric stores. I'm sure others will chime in with lots of suggestion re the best stores to visit, then you can use the map to plan your day out. Zoom in on the Sydney area first and take it from there.
Two stores I would personally visit are Tessuti and The Fabric Store. HTH

Date: 7/23/12 4:24 AM The benefit of Cabramatta is that there are a lot of shops in close proximity and the price range is quite large, plenty of places to look at and I have found the shop staff very helpful when you are looking for something specific.
The map Belinda has linked is very helpful.
Needles to say that I love The Fabric Shop and Tessuti but need a sale to be on to visit those stores. ------ Sharon

Good luck with finding your fabric. I'm just cutting out two flower girl dresses today. Except I'm sewing them for someone on a major budget and am working with really cheap fabrics. Oh well, it's for a dress the kids will only wear once, so I'm dealing with it. ------ Kelley (Brisbane, QLD)

This one is a niece, and they told me to just get whatever I thought was right! Woo hoo, shopping fun! ------ Canberra, Australia
