Plain A-line skirt, cut back and front on fold??

I have a pattern for a plain A-line skirt that uses the same pattern piece for the front and back. The front piece is cut on the fold, the back piece is cut with a seam allowance at the middle and is sewn in a seam. Is there any reason not to cut both pieces on the fold? thanks for any help!! I have a nice piece of material from holidays 12 years ago, and I don't want to mess up! ------ Reading from Europe

When I laid out the fabric, there was only enough for two pieces cut on the fold anyway!
