Date: 7/29/12 1:10 AM Hi all I found this old sewing cabinet that I am wondering if it would be a good purchase.
I don't really know what I should be looking for though.
I had found something some time back that talked about it needing to be centered and how high cabinet table should be etc for most comfort but I have not been able to find it since so any help, info and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Its a nice big cabinet but it seems like the machine sits a little far back. Its not as much off to the side as most older ones are.
Anyway really wish I could get a picture on here but dont' know how to.
Any help at all.

If you put "posting a picture" in the search bar, you will find several threads on how to post pictures. Alternatively, you can post a LINK to a picture on an external site. ------

Date: 7/29/12 3:54 PM Not sure about that particular table but iwill put in a pitch for having a machine set into a table. It's a wonderful thing. So if this isn't right for size or price reasons, keep looking!!

Date: 7/29/12 5:35 PM In a table they are really nice. I had a table exactly like this before and they are useful.
It's one of the reasons I won't upgrade my treadle: everything is where I want it and I have a designated area for it. |

Date: 7/30/12 10:26 AM That's what I'm thinking. Most of these older tables didn't provide for center of the needle sitting. This may not bother you, but it does bother me - a lot. It's the reason my Singer 201 in a lovely cabinet doesn't get much use at all!! I have to twist, and at my age, that's just not worth it. ------

Date: 7/30/12 10:54 AM I'm left handed, so it seems more natural I suppose. My leaf is large, and I do the push with my left foot extended (right is counter balance and rarely do I exert pressure on it and have that closer to my body), so I guess I sit cockeyed enough I never noticed it.
I don't twist to sew, but then everything is on my left I need. |
