Date: 7/30/12 3:53 PM I just received the new Chado Ralph Rucci Vogue 1371
and the fabric suggestions are Synthetic Suede and Lightweight Double Knit. Is synthetic suede a woven, a knit, or some other sort of fabric. Does it stretch? Would RPL or ponte knit work? How about this medium weight red knit from Emma Onesock?
Thanks! -- Edited on 7/31/12 10:40 PM -- |

Date: 7/31/12 12:37 PM Synthetic suede might mean genuine Toray Ultra Suede, which is a very expensive nonwoven fabric ($50+ per yard), or it might mean the inexpensive, woven microfiber with a suede like surface that you can find for about $5 a yard that you can find at Nancy's Notions.
As far as the fabric goes, I would stick with a lightweight fabric for a dress like this. By the way, your link to EOS isn't working. ------ The essence of life is statistical improbability on a colossal scale.

Date: 7/31/12 12:49 PM What a fabulus pattern...I wish I could wear it. I have sewn Vogue patterns in Ultra suede (the real thing) and it is worth all the cost . It is indistructable, beautiful colours, totally washable, and I have made slippers out of it and remade one thing for another over the years. I love it, and it comes in more than one weight so you can chose one that is appropriate for this style. |

Date: 7/31/12 1:12 PM I love Toray Ultra Suede, too, and have used it for many projects including handbags, belts and trim for jackets. This particular dress in the smallest size requires 2.5 yards of 60" wide fabric. That would mean a minimum expenditure of $250 for the fabric. ------ The essence of life is statistical improbability on a colossal scale.

Date: 7/31/12 2:23 PM I bought the same pattern and had to buy the fabric for it, I ended up buying .Med weight houndstooth double knit at Fabricmart.
FabricMart has Ultrasuede for $29 (but it's 48" wide). You might want to measure the pieces and see what width you can get away with, I think the back of the envelope uses 60".
I'll be making another Chado RR pattern 1181 (caftan) and thought I might get away with using a narrower width like a 45" (envelope states 60" width), but one pattern piece is 54" wide. ------ "A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”

Date: 7/31/12 10:42 PM Thanks for your suggesions! I am not really interested in wearing an ultrasuede dress. I will look for a doubleknit/ponte and see what happens. Loti, that RPL looks lovely. I can't wait to see your version. |
