Having seen the books of Zentangle, and having seen books which take the idea and relate it to free motion quilting, I also wonder if some out there are using zentangle for embroidery designing and other garment embellishment ideas? I was not sure if I should put this is this forum or in Miscellaneous, so mods if you want to move it go to it, but I think the whole process is creative, and helps a lot of people to loosen the bonds that tied up their creativity! You can see the kit and the story here is you are not familiar with this: Zentangle website

And some books on AMAZON here - One Zentangle a Day

I haven't done a class, but a friend has, and she loves it. It does seem we could doodle ourselves, but probably wouldn't come up with this variety of designs! I do think it is appropriate to connect these designs to machine stitching in several genres though!

What is it? I've never heard of it, and it's sort of impossible to tell from their website (despite their lofty claim that "You can learn a lot from our website and lots of sites blogging about Zentangle." Yeah, not that patient! LOL I want a simple, straightforward "About" page.)

I did think the little slide show of designs on the home page was... pretty, but it just didn't tell me anything about what it's all supposed to be!

Oh.....here are some videos for those who haven't previously seen or heard of this from friends or reading or AMAZON - sorry - this is to one video, but there's quite a bit on You Tube:

A Zentangling video

NOW THIS I had to laugh at.. I recently passed up on some fabric that looked a lot like this in the print.. it just killed me but was sooooo high priced.. Utterly breathtaking and very unique. So I am so glad there is a book out on this. I love learning anything new.. you never know when it may be the perfect something you are looking for at any given date.
Just looking at it.. I would say no way you could goof it up too badly either.. thats a real plus. I also think once you got the hang of it.. it would be a no brainer kinda drafting.. Just go with the flow sorta thing.
Looks like a lot of fun..can't wait to try my hand at it..
And I see all sorts of freemotion possibilities here. starting out with a more simpler one then progresses as you learn .

Yes, for FMQ yes, but also for some embellishments and embroidery possibly? Surely someone out there has taken the class and or bought a book....and yes, It might just be fun to do this for relaxation as they do market it that way as well - 'course you can doodle for free but a lot of people cannot think of patterns to doodle even.

Yes, quilters have taken to Zentangle like horses with carrots.

Wow---that certainly makes interesting and one-of-a-kind designs.

GL - yes, the use of the different patterns seems challenging...I love the kit because it has a little dice like thing you roll for a pattern to use at random! I didn't buy either a book or the kit of course, and it seems in some ways a gimmick, but a lovely one really....:)))
