The article basically says that since there is so little garment manufacturing going on, there is a proposal for a name change. Seems kind of sad to me. |

Date: 8/2/12 11:50 AM When I worked in Manhattan I used to walk from Penn Station to 48th and Park, usually right through the garment district. Being a jaded New Yorker, I never really stopped to give more than a cursory look at the sculptures, so I never noticed that the end of the needle "pierced" the "fabric". Thank you for pointing that out.
Is the Walk of Fame fairly new? I stopped working in the city in 2001, and don't remember seeing it. |

Date: 8/2/12 11:59 AM I hope they don't change the name - sounds like another way to get sounding "upscale" so someone a bit more snotty than some of us has nothing better to do than propose to rename a venerable section of NYC. Sigh.... ------ "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."

I was buying something in a jewelry store and asked to use the bathroom. I was told
"Oh, you wouldn't like it. It's SMALL."
I stared at the guy, like, "I'm going to take a leak, NOT go HORSEBACK RIDING.'
So he continues, "Starbucks has a REALLY NICE BATHROOM! You could go to Starbucks."
And I continue to stare at him. So he asks me if something is WRONG. And I reply,
"Yeah! I don't WANNA GO TO STARBUCKS!"
I tell you, I had to find a bagel store to go to the freakin' bathroom!
We are losing our minds ovah heah!

Date: 8/2/12 1:03 PM I am not in NY, but many museums ARE closing down.
Several small towns I have lived in no longer have them. They auction off the items when the curator dies (even those belonging to the city) and the buildings sit empty.
ETA: I get poked fun at where I am for my antiques. Not that they are considered such, but I get asked more often then I care to tell you on why I have "old" stuff when I can get new. -- Edited on 8/2/12 1:04 PM -- |
