Presser feet for Pfaff Must you only purchase Pfaff feet?

I'm currently researching a sewing machine and looking at all of them. The Pfaff IDT intrigues me and I know that when using the IDT feature of the SM that I would need to use presser feet specifically for IDT. But I was curious about other presser feet for various types of sewing and if I had to purchase only Pfaff presser feet, or I could purchase some generic brand. Machine feet are after all made to be used on the machines for which they are made. They work better than generic feet. Sometimes you can use other feet, but why go into a purchase with that in mind? Is there some special foot you will need for your own purposes? In general buy the feet for the machine you buy because it's a system. Look at the overall picture when machine shopping - what is in your budget? And that means machines and feet both. I have 2 older Pfaffs (6270 and 1475) and they are still steaming along after several years of sewing. You may find the Pfaff feet are not that expensive compared to Bernina and there is a wide variety available. Several of the feet have a cutout part at the back meant to be used with the IDT feature. I have used a couple of generic feet I had from an old machine, but they needed to be screwed on and I could get equivalent Pfaff feet that just snapped on. I would be careful about using other brands--they may not fit quite right and even a few millimeters can make a difference. Let me know if if you have other Pfaff questions.

Pfaff probably has some holes in its foot library, but not many. Of course, if the feet are cheaper, you can just return the ones that don't work-- preferably without interesting needle marks. Besides, you'll probably want to use idt as much as possible.

He said that you will hear the clunking noise as it hits but it won't hurt it. I accidently did that twice and didn't like the sound. It bothered me and I felt like I was doing some damage. (This was during the time of the 1400 series, so I can't say for current machines.) ------ I have not yet begun to procrastinate

The cut-out feet are to enable the IDT foot to grab the fabric between the cut-out area... The snap on ankle and foot I used on one of my deceased Brother machines fits somewhat. The one I'm using has a lever which protrudes back into the IDT area, but just off to the side of it - it would be awkward to change out feet for sure. The really interesting part was when I lowered the presser foot, it doesn't rest on the feed dogs - there is maybe 2mm of clearance? ------ www.iamchristianmichael.com I'm proof that men really will ask for directions :-D Bernina 240 & 130, Pfaff 1222E & 2020, Singer 503, Janome 3434D, closet way too full of spandex and I think there is a puppy somewhere in this mess.
