San Francisco fabric store? going there the end of this month

But beware, there's a big construction project going on for the next few years there, so traffic is likely to be snarly. Another option, if you're going to Marin, is Dharma Trading Co. in San Rafael - THE destination for dyes, paints, dye-able natural fabrics, and all sorts of related goodies. Also, if you're going to Fabrix in SF (and you MUST!!!!!) , pop in to Satin Moon as well, just a couple of blocks away. My personal must-see short list choices for a visitor: In SF: 1. Fabrix 2. Britex East Bay: 1. Stonemountain and Daughter 2. Piedmont Fabrics Marin: 1. However, for less pricey (and a more jumbled atmosphere) try Stonemoutain and Daughter in Berkeley. You can find some nice things just not the ambiance of Britex.

It's like a little jewel box... each and every every fabric is beautiful. When I need something particular and special, I always find it there. It's a bit off the beaten track, but it's easy to take the bus down Geary from downtown. Or better yet, if you're driving, head up to The Ribbonerie afterwards to see more ribbons and trim than you can imagine. Stonemountain in Berkeley is a great all around fabric store for quality basics. They also have a very good selection of tools and supplies. Just make sure to check their website before you go, as there may be a coupon which will certainly help make your fabric shopping more enjoyable! I love fabric shopping in all kinds of venues from hole-in-the-wall to high toney. They all have their own charms. About Britex- I buy fabric there occasionally. It's often things that are subtle in texture, hand and color- things that one can't discern online. Unlike Joann's, the prices are their prices and their sales are real reductions. The Britex trim floor alone is worth a visit. They have Petersham in probably 80 colors, vintage buttons, lace in all kinds of weights, constructions and widths, etc. I find the sales help actually helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Over the years I've learned a lot by asking questions and viewing fabric they know I'm not likely to buy. I've been offered plenty of spot-on advice about projects and been encouraged to let them see when I'm done. Will you find inexpensive buys? Rarely. However, you'll get an in depth experience in the art of sewing. ------ Sometimes she didn't always follow the recipe.
