I really want to try making some panties like these. Gerties new blog for better sewing panty express
However I have a large area to cover in the rear! I don't have any RTW ones to copy as I haven't come across any that fit perfectly. I always have to tug them down. What I want is underwear that cups under my bottom completely and stays there, as I am after no VPL at all.
Can anyone advise what alteration to a pattern would work, kind of equivalent to extending the CB seam on trousers?

If you want underwear that cups under your bottom, (which is why I started making my own) I can suggest that when you are sewing, stretch the elastic in that area a little tighter. This is based on a book called Sewing Lingerie that Fits, by Karen Morris.

Thank you for both your suggestions. I like the idea of making the elastic tighter. I will buy some knit fabric and have a try.

I love Jan Bones Panty "the Smoothie". Google search for Jan Bones Lingerie gets you there. Her DVD for panty construction is excellent as well.

Add a bit of fabric onto to the area the covers the cheeks, where you need it. To do this, just extend the pattern outward in that area and blend back into the crotch and top of leg areas. The pattern will look a little funny with a bit of a "lump," but once you add the elastic and actually put them on, you'll never know. Don't go crazy on stretching the elastic to cup under your cheeks or you will have VPLs - a little bit will do ya!

I make all of my own panties and have for years and this little extension, which works great, is one of the main reasons. You just can't get that in RTW.
