Hello all.
I never got the measurements from the lady that was selling the older cabinet so we decided to go ahead and use my k legs for a sewing table instead of a cutting table and hubby will just make me a cutting table the I can close down so it doesn't take up so much room all the time.

Anyway wanted to ask if you all know the best way to place my machine or know of sites that tell you how to place your machine on your table for most comfortable sewing.
He will be cutting the top so that I can put an insert around my machine to have a flat sewing surface.

Also wanted your opinions on this too.
I have been told to cut a hole for my machine then order insert but have also been told to order insert than cut hole.
So am not sure which is right OR if one way is better than the other.

Also anyone have any neat patterns or ideas for cutting tables that are not hard to make and that can be closed down when not in use.

Found a few but wanted to see if you guys had any better ideas , suggestions etc.

One last thing any suggestions or ideas on how to make the shelf under the table top to hold my machine when placed in the cut out hole would be Greatly Appreciate.

Any sites or instructions on any of these would be Awesome cause neither of us really know what we are doing! So any kind of help on this would be Greatly Appreciated also.

Thanks so much for the help

Sounds like you are at the stage I was about 6 years ago. As to where your machine should be placed, the needle should go in front of you. I made this mistake when getting my desk modified and wished I'd known (the needle on my machines goes a little to the left, making my right shoulder turn forward more and giving me cramps)

Also, the bed of the machine should be about 8-10" away from the edge of the table. A good way to check is to sit up and place your hands where you will be sewing. Have someone hold a full length mirror at your right side to show if you are hunched over. If you are, move the machine more toward you.

As to the insert, if I were you, I'd buy the insert first, then work the table top around it. Inserts are standard size and if you go anything outside that, it will be considered custom work and cost you more.

As to support under the table, make a three sided rectangular box the same dimensions as the bed of your machine and attach the open (long) end to the table by either drilling through the top or making a support underneath. I once had a diagram of how my machine sits in my old desk, but I've lost it. My old desk once had a middle drawer, and the base of that drawer was the support for the machine, with the height of the drawer being the depth of the machine bed. Also, drill a hole large enough for your power cord to slip through; otherwise the cord will be sitting on top of your table.
